Yoshukai is a traditional Japanese style of karate-do focused on practical self-defense, discipline, respect, conditioning and mental focus. Its name means "training hall of continued improvement" — every class is a chance to get a little better than yesterday.
Students learn to carry themselves with self-assurance — on the mat, at school and at work.
Traditional etiquette, focus and respect for others are built into every class.
Real conditioning through basics, kata and partner drills — fitness you earn one belt at a time.
One dojo, every age and every rank on the same mat.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Sensei Cruz has spent nearly three decades teaching karate across Alabama — from his own school in Birmingham to YMCAs, schools and fitness centers — and founded the World Yoshukai Karate Demonstration Team.
